Rotogravure and flexography printing technologies by BBC CELLPACK Packaging

Aware of the importance of strong visual impact, we put our know-how and expertise at our customers’ service with our two printing technologies: rotogravure and flexography. These techniques guarantee high-precision, high-quality results, meeting all requirements for flexible packaging printing.

Rotogravure

Rotogravure is a gravure printing process in which the printed elements come to life in the cylinder engravings. The ink is deposited by dipping into the machine’s ink fountain, then a blade removes the excess from the surface. Then, under the pressure of the printing machine, the ink is deposited on the paper or film, with varying degrees of nuance depending on the thickness of the ink and the depth of the engraving.

Flexography

Flexography is a relief printing process. Printing takes place on a cliché, a flexible, engraved plate in relief, which is placed on a cylinder. The cylinder bearing the cliché is impregnated with ink when it comes into contact with a second cylinder, the Anilox roller, which is immersed in the ink. This inking roller is equipped with micro-cells that fill with ink. Like an ink pad, the cliché then transfers the ink to the paper or film substrate, creating the print.
